15-1-2024 (BANGKOK) The Office of the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) has uncovered a significant privacy breach involving 5,261 organizations, including 4,886 government agencies, according to recent reports.
The PDPC office identified this extensive failure to protect personal data during the period from November 9 last year to January 12. The breach primarily manifested as excessive disclosure of personal information on websites and a lack of adequate security measures to safeguard personal data.
The 4,886 government organizations implicated in this privacy lapse span both central and local government sectors, as stated by the PDPC office. The office has already notified these organizations about the deficiencies and instructed them to rectify the vulnerabilities.
In addition to these findings, the office revealed that it took action against 23 Facebook accounts involved in the illegal trade of personal data. These accounts were subsequently shut down, and as a result of the PDPC’s investigations, five individuals involved in the illicit trading were arrested.
