9-1-2024 (BANGKOK) A massive fire tore through a paper factory warehouse in Muang district on Tuesday morning, with firefighters working diligently to control the blaze. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in the incident.
The fire erupted in the Mawanpathum Paper Co factory located in tambon Bang Kradee. Approximately 20 fire trucks and crews were deployed to combat the flames, revealed Pol Lt Col Suwat Phoree, the investigation chief at Pak Klong Rangsit police station.
The warehouse, measuring 12 metres by 80 metres, housed extensive stacks of compressed paper. The blaze was initially reported around 3 am, swiftly consuming the entire structure.
Firefighters persisted in dousing the flames with water well into late Tuesday morning, aiming to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
Thawatchai Ungamphornwilai, the mayor of Bang Kadee municipality, stated that nearby residents were the first to report the blaze. Fortunately, no workers were present inside the paper factory during the incident.
Adding to the challenges, the municipality and the provincial industry office had previously ordered the factory’s three-month closure due to complaints about pollution and an offensive odor disturbing local residents. Despite these issues, the factory management had failed to address the problems before the fire erupted, as mentioned by the mayor.
