8-1-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a meticulously coordinated effort, law enforcement agencies in Hong Kong, in conjunction with the Royal Malaysia Police Bukit Aman Narcotics Department, have effectively dismantled an international drug syndicate. Following intelligence leads and extensive investigations, authorities uncovered a sophisticated scheme involving the smuggling of illicit drugs camouflaged as gypsum sculptures from Malaysia to Hong Kong. The operation, executed on 5th January, culminated in the arrest of five drug traffickers and the confiscation of approximately 10.5 kilograms of suspected heroin and 2.4 grams of suspected cocaine, valued at an estimated HK$8.3 million (S$1.4 million).
The enforcement action began with the interception of a 25-year-old local male suspect at King Lam Estate in Tseung Kwan O by Hong Kong authorities. A subsequent search revealed five packages containing 2.4 grams of suspected cocaine and one package of suspected heroin. The individual was swiftly apprehended on charges of “trafficking dangerous drugs.” A subsequent search at the suspect’s residence led to the discovery of an additional 10 bricks, weighing approximately 3.5 kilograms, of suspected heroin. This discovery resulted in the arrest of another 25-year-old local female suspect believed to be linked to the case.
Simultaneously, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, authorities detained a 25-year-old Hong Kong male, a 47-year-old foreign male, and a 31-year-old foreign female outside a hotel. The joint operation resulted in the confiscation of 20 bricks, weighing a total of 7 kilograms, of suspected heroin, along with various drug packaging materials. The two Hong Kong individuals arrested have been provisionally charged with “trafficking dangerous drugs.” The case was presented before the Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts this morning (8th).
