5-1-2024 (SEOUL) TidalWave Comics has unveiled a new addition to its FAME series—a 22-page comic book chronicling the remarkable rise to stardom of South Korea’s K-pop sensation, BTS, and their recent transition to military service.
Since their debut in 2013, BTS has captured the hearts of millions worldwide with their infectious hits and meaningful social campaigns aimed at empowering young people. The glossy comic delves into the journey of the seven talented singers as they navigated the path to fame—and their subsequent transformation from pop stars to soldiers.
In South Korea, all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28 are obligated to serve in the military for a period ranging from 18 to 21 months. This mandatory service is a crucial part of the country’s defense strategy against the nuclear-armed North Korea.
While exemptions and shorter service terms have been granted to Olympic medalists and prize-winning classical musicians, there had been calls for BTS to be exempt as well. However, in December 2022, the group’s eldest member, Jin, enlisted in the army, and the remaining members followed suit. The final three members began their military duty just last month. Devoted fans of BTS have pledged to patiently await their return as a group, eagerly anticipating their reunion in 2025.
The comic book will be available in both print and digital formats, offering fans the option to enjoy the captivating story in the medium of their choice. It will be released on January 10, with softcover and hardcover editions to cater to the preferences of collectors and enthusiasts alike.
