26-12-2023 (JAKARTA) Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto has solidified his leading position in the latest polls, emerging as the frontrunner after participating in the presidential election debates.
According to a poll conducted by Indonesian agency Indikator Politik and reported by Reuters on Tuesday (December 26), Prabowo commands a substantial lead with 46.7% support. This places him more than 20 percentage points ahead of his closest rival. Prabowo’s running mate is Jibrand, the eldest son of Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
In the second position is Ganchar, the former governor of Central Java Province and the Democratic Party’s nominee, the largest party in the Indonesian Parliament. Ganchar secured 24.5% support, closely followed by Anis, the former chief of the Jakarta Special Administrative Region, with 21%.
The “Political Indicators” poll was conducted on December 23 and 24, spanning the first presidential debate on December 12 and the subsequent second vice-presidential debate on December 22. With three more presidential election debates scheduled, the latest poll captures the public sentiment in the ongoing political discourse.
A separate poll conducted this month by Indonesian media outlet “Kompas” revealed Prabowo leading with an approval rate of 39.3%. Anis garnered 16.7%, while Ganchar trailed with 15.3%.
