22-12-2023 (SINGAPORE) Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) was abuzz with excitement on December 21 as hundreds of fans flocked to catch a glimpse of renowned actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai. The film icon was in town to promote his latest movie, “The Goldfinger,” in which he stars alongside Andy Lau.
It has been a remarkable 22 years since Leung and Lau last collaborated on a film, with their previous joint venture being the iconic “Infernal Affairs,” which made its debut in cinemas back in 2002. Leung’s appearance at RWS marks his first public appearance in Singapore in a decade, the previous one being in 2013 for “The Grandmaster.”
Despite the overcast sky and intermittent raindrops, a sizable crowd eagerly lined the red carpet, which extended from parts of Universal Studios Singapore (USS) all the way to the Pantages Hollywood Theatre, located within USS itself. Leung, accompanied by “The Goldfinger” director Felix Chong and producer Ronald Wong, gracefully made their way along the red carpet, taking the time to greet fans on both sides and even pausing to sign autographs at one point.
Despite their hectic schedule, which included the film’s gala in Hong Kong on December 20 and a subsequent flight to Singapore on December 21, Leung and his team showed no signs of fatigue. Upon their arrival, they faced questions at a press conference, participated in separate media interviews (with more to come tomorrow), and then freshened up before heading straight to the red carpet and gala event.
On December 22, the trio will continue their promotional tour in Malaysia, captivating audiences there with their presence.
“The Goldfinger” is set to hit Singaporean theaters on December 30, promising an eagerly awaited cinematic experience for fans of Leung and Lau alike.
