18-12-2023 (SINGAPORE) Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced its plans to introduce non-stop flights between Singapore and London’s Gatwick Airport, with the inaugural service commencing in June 2024. According to a press release issued by the airline on Monday (Dec 18), the new route will operate five times a week.
The addition of the Singapore-Gatwick service will complement SIA’s existing four daily flights to London’s Heathrow Airport, bringing the total number of weekly flights to London to 33, up from the current 28.
SIA will gradually make tickets available for sale through various distribution channels, starting from Tuesday.
Pending regulatory approval, the new flight, designated as SQ310, will depart from Singapore on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The first flight is scheduled to take off on June 21, 2024, at 11:55 PM local time. The return flight, SQ309, will operate from Gatwick Airport on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with the inaugural departure on June 22, 2024, at 10:15 AM local time. The flight will arrive back in Singapore on June 23, 2024, at 6:20 AM.
SIA highlights that the early morning arrival in Singapore will provide passengers with convenient options to connect to SIA and Scoot flights, enabling seamless travel to various destinations across Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
For the Singapore-Gatwick route, SIA will utilize the long-haul variant of its Airbus A350-900 aircraft, featuring 253 seats across three cabin classes. The Business Class will have 42 seats, Premium Economy Class will offer 24 seats, and Economy Class will accommodate 187 seats. With the addition of Gatwick Airport, SIA’s European network will expand to include a total of 14 destinations.
Dai Haoyu, SIA’s Acting Senior Vice President of Marketing Planning, emphasizes that the new service will provide customers with an additional flight option between Singapore and the UK. He further notes that it will enhance travel possibilities to other European cities and the Asia-Pacific region.
London Gatwick’s CEO, Mr. Stewart Wingate, expresses excitement about the new route, highlighting the connectivity potential it brings, not only to Singapore but also to various destinations across Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
