18-12-2023 (SINGAPORE) A customer discovered a menacing metal hook in a packet of frozen squid purchased from a Sheng Siong supermarket in Bukit Batok, Singapore. The supermarket has promptly apologized for the unsettling discovery, offering a refund to the affected customer while initiating an internal investigation into the matter.
The customer, who initially shared her experience on the Complaint Singapore Facebook group, disclosed that she had visited the Sheng Siong outlet at Block 154A Bukit Batok West Avenue 8. Although the original post has been deleted, a photo of the receipt she shared has circulated online, revealing that she paid S$6.99 for the packet of frozen squid during her visit on Thursday, December 14.
The metal hook, described by the customer as resembling an “umbrella hook,” was found within the squid. The photo she posted depicted a sharp-edged metal object that could potentially cause harm if ingested. She urged fellow customers to exercise caution while cleaning their seafood, expressing concern over the safety of consuming such products.
The supermarket confirmed that a refund had been issued and conveyed their apologies for the unsettling discovery. Additionally, an internal investigation has been launched to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the presence of the metal hook in the frozen squid.
