18-12-2023 (WASHINGTON) President Joe Biden’s motorcade was struck by a car, prompting Secret Service agents to swiftly secure the area and evacuate the president from the scene. The collision occurred as the president and first lady Jill Biden were leaving his campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, around 8 pm on Sunday after sharing a meal with campaign staffers.
As the couple exited the building, the sound of the collision drew their attention, with President Biden visibly surprised. A silver copper sedan with Delaware plates collided with the black U.S. Secret Service SUV that was part of the motorcade, causing a loud bang.
Armed agents immediately drew their weapons on the driver of the sedan, who had his hands raised inside the vehicle. The identity of the driver has not been released at this time.
The first lady, Jill Biden, had been exchanging holiday wishes with waiting journalists when the collision occurred. Despite the unexpected disturbance, both the president and the first lady emerged unharmed.
Following the collision, the sedan attempted to proceed into a closed-off intersection. However, Secret Service personnel swiftly intervened, surrounding the vehicle with weapons drawn and instructing the driver to raise his hands. The driver complied with the instructions, and nearby reporters were quickly moved away from the scene.
Reporters had been questioning President Biden about his recent polling numbers when the crash transpired. Witnesses reported a loud bang, prompting the president to exclaim, ‘woah,’ before being rushed to his waiting vehicle. The president was then driven expeditiously back to his residence, where he and the first lady arrived around 8:20 pm.
Despite the dramatic incident, the president’s schedule remained unaffected, and he continued with his plans. The Secret Service has not yet provided details on the cause of the crash, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
