12-12-2023 (JAKARTA) Every parent knows that once you have children, your money seems to vanish in the blink of an eye. However, a mother in Solo, Indonesia, experienced a rather unusual situation when her toddler decided to shred her banknotes, rendering them useless. The mother had to painstakingly piece the shredded banknotes back together, comparing the process to solving a puzzle.
The incident came to light when a TikTok user, @mahisaka_, shared videos last Thursday (7 Dec) showcasing the aftermath of her daughter’s mischievous playtime with a pair of scissors. The videos revealed banknotes of different denominations scattered on the floor, with the largest note being worth 100,000 rupiah (approximately S$8.60). In one of the videos, the woman captioned, “Don’t teach me patience,” referring to the challenging situation she found herself in.
While many parents would have been furious in such a situation, the mother displayed extraordinary patience. Another video captured her calmly conversing with her daughter, questioning the reason behind cutting up the money. The toddler simply replied that she wanted to cut something. In a composed tone, the mother explained that money should not be cut as it would become damaged and unusable. The child apologized, and the mother gently advised her not to repeat the act, receiving a sweet peck on her hand as a sign of remorse.
However, the mother’s task was far from over. She shared another video depicting her painstakingly piecing the banknotes back together using scotch tape. She likened the process to solving a puzzle, as she carefully matched the torn pieces and delicately attached them to one another. The arduous task lasted until dawn, with a clock in the background indicating that she started at 12:15 am. Only at 4 am did she finally turn off the lights and go to sleep.
The mother’s decision to share the incident on the internet can be seen as a way to vent her frustration. Yet, she deserves praise for her remarkable patience, handling the situation with composure and counseling her daughter. The tedious task of restoring the banknotes demonstrated her dedication, and she certainly displayed the patience of a saint.
It goes without saying that being a parent requires an extraordinary level of patience. Hopefully, the mother was able to successfully exchange the damaged banknotes for new ones, putting this unexpected episode behind her.
