7-12-2023 (BEIJING) Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit Hanoi, Vietnam from December 12-13, according to sources familiar with the plan. The visit was confirmed after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Vietnamese officials last week.
The trip was originally scheduled for December 14-16, but was moved up due to scheduling reasons, according to one of the sources. Xi last visited Vietnam in 2017 for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, which was held in the coastal city of Danang.
The upcoming visit comes just three months after US President Joe Biden’s trip to Vietnam, where he upgraded the relationship between the two countries to a “comprehensive strategic partnership.” Vietnam has also granted this designation to China and India.
