6-12-2023 (SEOUL) Concerns about the future of South Korean girl group Blackpink can now be put to rest as all four members—Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé—have officially committed to continuing their musical journey together. The quartet has renewed their contract with YG Entertainment, as reported by South Korean news agency Naver.
The duration of the renewed contract remains undisclosed, leaving fans curious about the group’s long-term plans. YG Entertainment, in response to the development, released a statement affirming the positive news, saying, “We have completed a board resolution on the signing of a group exclusive contract for all four members of our artist BLACKPINK.”
Negotiations between YG Entertainment and Blackpink have been ongoing for months, with the record label eager to extend its collaboration with the immensely popular girl group. The conclusion of the band’s contract, after seven years together—a customary practice in the K-pop industry—prompted speculations and rumors in South Korea.
Various reports suggested different potential scenarios, ranging from all four members seeking solo contracts with other record labels, including those based in America, to the possibility of individual deals alongside continued collaboration within Blackpink, perhaps with a modified lineup. The uncertainty kept fans on edge until the recent confirmation of the contract renewal.
Blackpink has achieved unparalleled success in recent years, solidifying its status as the top-selling girl group globally. In 2023, their album “Born Pink” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking a significant milestone for the group. Additionally, they have secured nine hits on the Hot 100, establishing themselves as one of the most successful K-pop acts in American history.
While excelling collectively, Blackpink’s members have also pursued individual creative endeavors. Each member has ventured into solo music projects, with varying degrees of commercial success. Beyond music, they have engaged in modeling and acting, with future projects on the horizon for many, if not all, of the members.
