1-12-2023 (BEIJING) Dogs have long been considered companions to humans, but it is essential to remember that they are still animals capable of aggression. A devastating incident in China serves as a stark reminder of this fact, as a Tibetan Mastiff brutally attacked a one-year-old child, resulting in the loss of the child’s forearm. The incident occurred on Sunday (Nov 26) and has left the local community in shock.
The unfortunate incident took place in a residential area of China, where a family had been keeping a Tibetan Mastiff as a pet. Typically confined to its cage, the dog was temporarily released to enjoy a meal. However, tragedy struck when the unleashed dog suddenly lunged towards a nearby toddler, launching a vicious attack.

Reports from Jiangnan News indicate that while the young child managed to survive the assault, his left forearm was violently torn off by the aggressive canine. The severity of the injuries necessitated immediate medical attention, prompting the family to rush the child to a nearby hospital later that evening. The delay of approximately two hours between the attack and hospital admission further added to the child’s suffering.
Upon arrival at the medical facility, doctors quickly assessed the situation and determined that surgery was essential to reattach the severed limb. Unfortunately, the extent of the damage inflicted by the Tibetan Mastiff was so severe that the medical team needed to exercise caution. The doctors decided to closely monitor the child’s progress over a period of ten days to determine if the reattachment procedure would prove successful.
The Tibetan Mastiff is a breed of large dogs known for their imposing stature. Depending on their gender, these majestic canines can weigh anywhere between 31kg and 68kg.
