23-11-2023 (HANOI) Vietnam is experiencing a significant surge in e-commerce activity, driven by a rising number of online shoppers showcasing improved shopping skills and an increased purchase value, as reported by VnExpress on Thursday. The Vietnam E-commerce Association’s General Secretary, Tran Van Trong, highlighted the booming trend, emphasizing the influx of online sellers, many of whom operate without physical stores.
The heightened demand has led to a notable increase in the supply of goods within the e-commerce sector, with millions of individuals now engaging in online selling activities. According to the report, over half of Vietnam’s population engaged in online shopping last year, underscoring the sustained growth in both supply and demand in the e-commerce landscape.
Dang Anh Dung, Deputy CEO of the Lazada Vietnam e-commerce platform, revealed that approximately 57 million Vietnamese made online purchases in the previous year, with a significant concentration in major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang City. These insights were derived from a report by Google and Temasek & Bain.
A notable shift in consumer behavior has been observed, particularly among the younger demographic in Vietnam. These consumers are becoming more discerning, placing a premium on product values and expressing a willingness to switch brands if they encounter low-quality items.
E-commerce stands as a key contributor to Vietnam’s digital economy, poised for a robust growth trajectory. Projections indicate a 22 percent growth, reaching $24 billion by 2025,
