22-11-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) As anticipation builds for the Coldplay concert at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Wednesday night (Nov 22), Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced that a ‘kill switch’ would be in effect during the event.
Fahmi revealed that discussions between the Central Agency for Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (Puspal) and the concert organizer led to the decision to implement the ‘kill switch.’ This measure aims to promptly halt the concert if it deviates from official guidelines.
“The discussion with Puspal and the organizer has been positive. The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) has also expressed that the band is very supportive of Palestine. We are upbeat for the concert today,” Fahmi shared with reporters after attending the Digital Transformation Leader’s CxO Summit: Intelligent Digital Transformation in the 5G Era.
The decision to apply the ‘kill switch’ aligns with concerns raised by various parties who called for the concert’s cancellation, citing the need to respect the current situation in Gaza, Palestine. There are also apprehensions that a repeat of the indecent incident involving the pop-rock group The 1975 in July could occur.
Fahmi also advised the public to utilize public transportation, which will operate until late on Wednesday, to facilitate smoother traffic movement around the venue.
