21-11-2023 (SEOUL) The globally acclaimed K-pop sensation, Blackpink, is reportedly on the brink of renewing their contracts with YG Entertainment. According to sources, the group is expected to continue their group activities with the agency while having the flexibility to collaborate with other representatives for individual promotions.
Although the names of the two members who have allegedly signed contracts to continue Blackpink’s activities were not disclosed, this move signals a significant development for the popular girl group.
In response to the report, YG Entertainment issued a statement, stating, “We are still in discussions. Nothing has been decided yet.” The ambiguity surrounding the negotiations has kept fans and industry insiders on the edge of their seats.
Addressing the exclusive contracts, a statement from YG Entertainment, as quoted by Sports Chosun, stated, “We are negotiating with the artists regarding their exclusive contracts. The final outcome will be revealed through the document regarding major management issues related to investments.”
Blackpink, often hailed as the “biggest girl group in the world,” comprises members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lalisa “Lisa” Manoban, with Lisa being the only member from Thailand.
The band’s future has been a topic of speculation, especially as their seven-year contract seemingly reached its conclusion in August. YG Entertainment has maintained a veil of silence regarding the group’s prospects, contributing to market uncertainty.
On September 21, YG Entertainment’s stock price experienced a sudden 13% decline amid reports suggesting that only Rosé might stay with the company. However, recent reports indicating Blackpink’s agreement to continue as a group have reportedly led to a positive shift in YG’s stock, with shares climbing by 3% on Monday, as reported by CNBC.
