19-11-2023 (MANILA) The death toll from a magnitude 6.7 offshore earthquake in the southern Philippines climbed to eight, as reported by the country’s civil defense on Sunday, November 19.
Following Friday’s earthquake, which struck deep off Mindanao island, two individuals who were initially missing in a landslide have been confirmed dead, according to the Office of Civil Defense.
The most recent fatalities were reported in Sarangani province, while others lost their lives in South Cotabato and Davao Occidental province. Additionally, 13 people sustained injuries during the tremor, causing panic among the residents and damaging over 50 houses and other structures.
The Philippines is situated in the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” a region characterized by frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity, described by the U.S. Geological Survey as the “most seismically and volcanically active zone in the world.”
