9-11-2023 (JAKARTA) Indonesian President Joko Widodo, known popularly as Jokowi, has expressed his intent to convey a crucial message to United States President Joe Biden during their scheduled meeting on Monday. Jokowi, the leader of the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country, is set to depart for Riyadh to participate in an international summit regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. He has pledged to share the outcomes of this summit with President Biden.
During a brief statement, President Widodo declared, “I will be delegated to inform President Joe Biden that the hostilities between Hamas and Israel must come to an immediate halt,” while refraining from disclosing further specifics.
The recent escalation of the Israel-Hamas conflict began when Hamas militants breached Israeli borders on October 7, resulting in the tragic loss of 1,400 lives. This incursion prompted a relentless series of Israeli military strikes on Gaza, a campaign in which Palestinian authorities claim that over 10,500 lives have been tragically lost.
Indonesia, along with several other nations, has called for an urgent ceasefire in the region and has extended humanitarian aid to Gaza in a show of solidarity.
A White House spokesperson previously stated that the meeting between President Widodo and President Biden would also involve discussions on upholding international law and promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
