6-11-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Heavy rainfall in various Malaysian states on Sunday led to severe flooding, prompting the evacuation of approximately 200 people in Selangor. The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department initiated the evacuation operation at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday following an emergency call received from local authorities.
As a result of the heavy rain, 14 houses in Taman Semenyih Indah were inundated, with water levels reaching up to 1.5 meters, affecting around 50 residents, according to Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, the assistant director of operations for the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department. However, the water level began to gradually recede.
Mr. Ahmad Mukhlis explained, “In Kampung Bangi Lama, the team assisted in relocating some 50 people from 10 families after 10 houses were flooded up to waist level. The water level was rising.” He added that around 100 individuals from Kampung Bangi Lama had relocated themselves to safer locations and were currently being housed at the Kampung Bangi Village Community Management Council hall and Tadika Perpaduan Bangi Ria.
