According to eyewitness Simon Hales, the woman, who had missed her flight, recklessly bypassed security and made her way onto the airport tarmac in a last-ditch effort to halt a departing QantasLink flight bound for Adelaide. The audacious scene played out like a scene from a romantic comedy, with the woman desperately trying to flag down the pilot as if she were hailing a cab.

“It was clear that the lady who had missed her flight believed she could still catch it,” wrote Hales in a Facebook post. The footage shows the woman yelling and jumping up in an effort to get the pilot’s attention. Bystanders were left bewildered and unsure of how to react to the bizarre spectacle. “People were a bit flat-footed, they didn’t seem to know what to do,” recalled Dennis Bilic, another witness who filmed the incident.
Fortunately, the pilot reacted promptly and shut down the aircraft’s engine. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) swiftly apprehended the inconsiderate traveler. As a consequence of her reckless actions, all flights at the airport experienced a 10-minute delay. However, operations have since returned to normal.
The incident highlights the dangers of individuals disregarding airport security protocols and risking the safety of themselves and others. Authorities are likely to investigate the incident further to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Despite the inconvenience caused, passengers can now breathe a sigh of relief as travel operations at Canberra Airport resume without further disruption.
