4-11-2023 (BANGKOK) A rare Malayan tiger was recently captured on camera in Bang Lang National Park, as announced by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) on its Facebook page.
The DNP explained in its post that there are various sub-species of tigers, and the Malayan tiger is primarily found in the southern border regions of Thailand and Malaysia.
In Thailand, the Malayan tiger population is concentrated within Bang Lang National Park and Hala-Bala Wildlife Sanctuary. In contrast, the central and western regions of the country are inhabited by Indochinese tigers.
The remarkable sighting of a Malayan tiger in Bang Lang National Park can be attributed to the “Smart Patrol” system, which has been implemented to monitor and safeguard wildlife within protected forest areas.
Dubbed “Bang Lang 01,” this Malayan tiger was captured by trap cameras, a crucial tool that aids DNP officials in their forest surveys and the acquisition of valuable data about this elusive species.
