30-10-2023 (SINGAPORE) Singaporean authorities have arrested a man and seized a cache of weapons following his public display of a samurai sword in a video posted on social media. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) responded to a report on October 28, 2023, regarding the video, which depicted the man brandishing the sword.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the video had been uploaded to the man’s social media page. In the footage, which was shared on Facebook, the man expressed his desire to test the sharpness of the sword, proceeding to slice a bottle in half.
Following the identification of the man, police officers promptly arrested him at a residential unit located along York Hill, adjacent to Chin Swee Road. During a subsequent raid on the suspect’s residence, law enforcement officials discovered and seized additional weapons, including a butterfly knife, a flick knife, and a knuckle duster. Moreover, drug paraphernalia was also found on the premises.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) issued a news release on Sunday (October 29), stating that the man would be charged in court on Monday for weapon possession. The offense of carrying a scheduled weapon in a public place for unlawful purposes carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a minimum of six strokes of the cane.
Expressing zero tolerance for such audacious acts, the SPF emphasized its unwavering commitment to enforcing the law and taking decisive action against individuals who brazenly disregard it. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, with the Central Narcotics Bureau also examining the man for possible drug-related offenses.
