28-10-2023 (JAKARTA) In a significant legal development, the Serang District Court in Indonesia has handed down death sentences to eight individuals for their involvement in the smuggling of 319 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. Chief Judge Uli Purnama, heading the panel of judges, declared the guilty verdicts, citing compelling evidence of their violation of the Narcotics Law.
The eight offenders, all of Iranian nationality, were apprehended by the National Narcotics Agency on February 23 during an attempt to transport the illegal drugs via a fishing vessel in the waters of the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Java Island. In a dramatic operation, the police fired warning shots as the suspects made a desperate bid to evade capture.
The subsequent search revealed the shocking extent of their criminal activities, as law enforcement seized 309 bags, containing a staggering 319 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, concealed beneath the vessel’s fuel tank.
