25-10-2023 (BANGKOK) Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin of Thailand has underscored the government’s commitment to advancing and improving the quality of life for all Thai citizens. During a Dinner Talk event titled “Thailand’s Future 2024,” organized by The Nation Group in Bangkok on October 24, the Prime Minister discussed various key issues and outlined the government’s policies.
Prime Minister Thavisin highlighted the importance of volunteerism becoming a driving force for the nation and how this could attract foreign investment. He expressed the government’s intention to serve as an intermediary connecting global businesses with opportunities in Thailand.
Addressing a range of concerns, including the Israel-Hamas conflict, the Prime Minister stressed the government’s determination to invigorate the Thai economy and swiftly address the needs of the people. Clear policies are being devised to tackle multidimensional inequalities within Thai society.
In an interview, Prime Minister Thavisin revealed efforts to repatriate Thai workers from Israel, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs working diligently to bring back 800-1,000 Thai workers daily. However, some workers have reconsidered returning, as their Israeli employers offered increased wages and postponed wage payments to November 10. This situation has raised concerns about the safety of the workers should conditions deteriorate further.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the importance of local politics and urged party members to remain mindful of this factor. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing previously announced policies.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Thavisin addressed topics such as visa exemptions for Chinese nationals and extending the operating hours of service establishments.
Highlighting the recent trade mission to China, which included participation from the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Bank of Thailand, and Thai business representatives, the Prime Minister stressed that the government had facilitated access to Thai products and services, not just investments.
The government is actively encouraging investments and creating opportunities for Thai businesses, especially at the grassroots level. A key objective is to triple farmers’ income within four years, with a focus on mid-term and long-term economic stability.
In terms of transportation, the government is pushing for the development of land bridges to enhance product and oil transportation, particularly given that 60% of such traffic passes through the narrow Malacca Strait. Despite varying public opinions, the government remains committed to land bridge initiatives.
Prime Minister Thavisin emphasized the importance of sound financial and treasury policies aimed at improving people’s lives while maintaining financial stability. He stressed the government’s role as a source of hope and inspiration, providing clean and transparent assistance. He called for collaboration between the government and the private sector to support the new generation.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister addressed ongoing government initiatives, including equal marriage rights, military service criteria, and the commitment to work without conflict. He emphasized the need to address differences in opinions collaboratively and assured the public that the government is dedicated to uplifting the lives of all Thai citizens from all perspectives.
