23-10-2023 (BEIJING) Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, 44, and musician Wang Feng, 52, have officially called it quits on their eight-year marriage. The news was conveyed through parallel statements posted on their Weibo accounts this afternoon (Oct 23).
In their statements, they expressed gratitude for the support they had received over the years and shared that after careful consideration and discussions, they had decided to dissolve their marriage. They emphasized their commitment to co-parenting their children in the future, stating, “We will continue to raise our children together and be their most trusted parents… There is no right or wrong between us, and separation does not imply disappointment or betrayal. This is a decision made by two adults, and we hope to receive understanding and support from everyone.”
They further disclosed that they would not be addressing any additional questions to safeguard their family’s privacy.
Ziyi and Wang Feng tied the knot in May 2015 and have two children together: a daughter born in December 2015 and a son born in January 2020. Wang Feng also has two daughters from previous relationships.
Rumors of the couple’s divorce had already begun circulating earlier today when an entertainment blogger on Weibo claimed, based on insider information, that the pair had indeed separated, with their daughter allegedly staying with Wang Feng and their son under Ziyi’s care. The hashtag “Zhang Ziyi Wang Feng divorce” quickly soared to the top of Weibo’s Hot Search list at noon, leading many to speculate on the truth of the rumors, particularly noting the lack of recent interactions between the couple on Weibo.
However, other discussions emerged refuting the rumors. Last month, Ziyi and Wang Feng were seen together, enjoying a meal with their two children, appearing as a “blissful family.” Such sightings prompted some to question the validity of the divorce claims.
In addition, certain speculations on Weibo suggested that Wang Feng’s alleged infidelity, caught by Ziyi, may have contributed to the decision to end their marriage.
