23-10-2023 (BANGKOK) A heartwarming incident unfolded as a video surfaced from the Siam Buriram Rescue News Centre in Nangrong, Buriram Province. In the video, 15 rescue workers gathered to celebrate the birthday of one of their fellow volunteers. They were in the midst of a cake-cutting ceremony when an emergency call interrupted the festivities.
The video, which was shared on Facebook, showcased the rescuers sitting in three circles, enjoying a meal together during the celebration. The head of the rescue team was holding a cake when all of them suddenly received an emergency call on their radios. Without hesitation, they rushed to their rescue vehicles, leaving the cake behind.
In the absence of the rescuers, two dogs at the scene seized the opportunity and indulged in the cake that had fallen to the floor. The incident unfolded on October 23, 2023.
Mr. Worabudin Rungrojchaiyakul, a 46-year-old volunteer rescue leader, explained that the team usually organizes simple birthday celebrations for the volunteers in the office. It’s a tradition to mark the occasion whenever a team member’s birthday coincides with their shift. This time, they were celebrating the birthday of one of their colleagues.
The evening of October 22, which happened to be the birthday of one of their members, they had gathered for a meal. Mr. Rungrojchaiyakul had purchased some grilled meat for everyone, and the birthday person was to blow out the candle on a cake.
However, their celebrations were short-lived. Soon after the birthday song ended, they received an emergency call reporting a motorcycle accident in front of Nangrong School. Without a second thought, the rescuers rushed to the scene.
In their haste to respond to the accident, the cake was abandoned, and that’s when the two dogs took the opportunity to have their unexpected feast.
Despite the interruption, the volunteer rescue leader, Mr. Rungrojchaiyakul, expressed that such events are typical for rescue workers, and they never consider them unfortunate. Instead, they view these situations as positive because they can assist injured individuals during times of celebration. It’s all part of their commitment to helping those in need.
Moreover, Mr. Sann Hemniti, a 26-year-old who was celebrating his birthday that night, mentioned that such incidents were quite normal for rescue workers. He didn’t view it as an unfortunate turn of events but rather saw it as a good deed since they were able to assist injured individuals during the time they were supposed to be celebrating and cutting a cake.
As a result of the incident, the community showed their appreciation for the dedicated work of the rescue team. A local restaurant in Nangrong District reached out and offered to organize a birthday celebration for all the rescue workers again on October 25, 2023.
