22-10-2023 (BANGKOK) Thaksin Shinawatra, the imprisoned former Prime Minister of Thailand, will be granted an extension of his stay outside prison in order to receive ongoing medical treatment at the Police General Hospital, announced the Department of Corrections on Saturday (October 21). This decision comes after the initially granted 60-day period expired.
Sahakarn Phetnarin, the director-general of the Department of Corrections, stated that the approval to allow Thaksin to remain in the hospital was based on recommendations from his doctors. The medical professionals believe that it is crucial for Thaksin to continue receiving proper medical care at the hospital, considering his ailments related to high blood pressure, respiratory problems, and other age-related health issues.
The Department of Corrections has submitted the necessary documents, including the approval, medical recommendations, and supporting evidence, to the permanent secretary of the Justice Ministry. The final decision regarding the extension of Thaksin’s stay at the hospital will be made by the permanent secretary.
