19-10-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a startling incident in Kota Bharu, a child fell out of the back door of a moving car and was subsequently struck by an oncoming SUV. The incident, caught on a car’s dashcam, unfolded near the traffic lights at Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra, in front of Kota Sri Mutiara.
The dashcam footage, which swiftly went viral on social media, clearly captures a grey Honda City making a U-turn at the said traffic lights. However, in the midst of this maneuver, the rear-left door of the vehicle unexpectedly swings open, leading to the child falling onto the road. While the car immediately behind the Honda City managed to swerve and avoid the child, an oncoming Perodua Ativa SUV could not evade the collision and struck the child.
Miraculously, despite the traumatic experience, the child seems to have escaped the incident without serious injuries. Following the accident, the child, though clearly disoriented, managed to get up and headed towards a family on a motorcycle nearby. The motorcyclist offered comfort to the child before guiding them back to their vehicle.
Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun commented on the incident, which occurred at approximately 5:42 pm. He suggested that the mishap may have been caused by the driver’s negligence in ensuring the car door was securely closed and that the child was properly belted in.
The police are currently making efforts to locate the vehicles involved and the child for further investigation. They are urging any witnesses, particularly the person who recorded the video, to come forward and provide additional information that could aid in the investigation. The incident is being examined under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
