17-10-2023 (SINGAPORE) A Chinese tourist recently expressed his disappointment with the attitudes of service staff in Singapore, painting a less-than-flattering picture of his experiences. In particular, he singled out public transport drivers and ice cream sellers, perceiving them as temperamental and less friendly compared to their counterparts in Malaysia.
In a TikTok video, the tourist, known as ‘Teacher Gogo,’ highlighted the disparity between the service staff in Singapore and those in Malaysia. He opined that Chinese service staff in Singapore, particularly those in small businesses, exhibited subpar attitudes. From bus drivers to roast pork hawkers and milk tea vendors, he claimed they were often short-tempered and uninterested in engaging with customers. In contrast, Teacher Gogo praised the cheerful and welcoming nature of Malaysia’s Chinese service staff.
Seeking validation for his observations, Teacher Gogo inquired whether others shared his sentiments about the attitudes of service staff in Singapore.
Many netizens agreed with the criticism of Singapore’s service staff, acknowledging their often detached demeanor. However, they offered a different perspective, attributing the unfriendliness to the stress and pressures associated with living and working in Singapore.
