14-10-2023 (SINGAPORE) A woman who found herself embroiled in a dispute with a Singapore Police Force (SPF) officer has been placed in custody after failing to secure a bailor.
On October 13, 2023, 29-year-old Han Feizi was presented in court, facing a total of six charges, including two counts of verbally abusing a public service worker or public servant. These charges stem from incidents captured in videos that surfaced on TikTok, showcasing her confrontations with a police officer. As reported by Lianhe Zaobao, on the same day, the presiding judge granted Han a bail of S$15,000.
During the court proceedings, Han was queried about her ability to find a suitable bailor, to which she expressed optimism by stating that she “should be” capable of doing so.
In Singapore, the criteria for a bailor is stringent. They must be a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident (PR) aged 21 or older, and should not be facing any criminal charges, among other prerequisites. However, even if a potential bailor meets these requirements, their eligibility is ultimately determined at the court’s discretion.
Han’s hearing was scheduled to commence at 9:15 a.m., and she appeared via video link from the Police Cantonment Complex. However, a reporter from Zaobao, who waited outside the court premises until approximately 6:05 p.m., witnessed Han leaving the Police Cantonment Complex in a police vehicle. This led to the inference that she had likely encountered difficulties in securing a bailor.
Zaobao further explained that individuals unable to find a bailor are typically remanded in prison. Han’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 25, where her legal proceedings will continue.
