13-10-2023 (HANGZHOU) Filipino basketball star Justin Brownlee and his Jordanian counterpart Sami Bzai, both finalists in the men’s basketball competition at the Asian Games, have failed doping tests during the tournament, as reported by the International Testing Agency (ITA) on Friday.
The Asian Games recently concluded with the Philippines emerging victorious over Jordan to claim the coveted men’s basketball title.
The ITA disclosed that a sample collected from Justin Brownlee has yielded an adverse analytical result for Carboxy-THC, while Sami Bzai from Jordan had a sample that tested positive for dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone metabolite. These samples were obtained during in-competition anti-doping checks conducted on October 7.
Both athletes have been informed of the doping cases and have the right to request the analysis of the B-samples, the ITA stated.
The International Testing Agency was specifically commissioned by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to independently oversee various aspects of the anti-doping program at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
This revelation adds to a growing list of doping cases reported at the Hangzhou Asian Games, with a total of 10 cases coming to light thus far.
