2-10-2023 (SINGAPORE) In an Instagram post on Sunday (October 1), Jamie Yeo, a 46-year-old former actress and radio deejay, shared the news that she is a breast cancer survivor. She bravely disclosed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago after discovering a lump during a self-examination.
Yeo shared that she was incredibly fortunate to have an early-stage and less aggressive tumour, making her prognosis more positive. Her treatment journey included a lumpectomy, radiation therapy, and an ongoing regimen of medication.
The former actress began her post by acknowledging that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, expressing her readiness to share her personal experience as a breast cancer survivor.
She reflected on the emotional turmoil she endured during the ordeal, encompassing “heart-numbing and indescribable fear,” along with moments of faith, resilience, hope, gratitude, and positivity.
Yeo admitted that receiving a “positive prognosis” following her surgery left her with a sense of guilt, as she encountered friends, acquaintances, and other patients who weren’t as fortunate. This experience prompted her to adopt a more meaningful perspective on life.
“The only option was to live life fully, with gratitude, and a fierce motivation to change – to live cleaner, simpler, kinder, better,” she wrote. During this time, she and her family decided to make a significant move to the UK in 2022 to start anew.
Yeo emphasized that she is “grateful for the shock” as it awakened her to what truly matters. She encourages increased awareness about breast cancer, advocating for early detection as it significantly improves the chances of survival, as was the case in her own experience.
