30-9-2023 (CALIFORNIA) In a recent update regarding the future of the DC Universe, filmmaker James Gunn has confirmed that three actors will be reprising their roles in upcoming superhero movies. Gunn, who was appointed as co-CEO of the studio along with Peter Safran last year, shared the news in response to fan inquiries.
According to Gunn, Xolo Mariduena will continue portraying Blue Beetle, Viola Davis will return as Amanda Waller, and John Cena will reprise his role as Peacemaker. The filmmaker made the announcement on Threads, stating, “Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year, a sort of aperitif to the DCU, then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that.”
Gunn also acknowledged the confusion surrounding the DCU’s continuity, noting that no one has yet seen anything from the DCU. He reassured fans that some actors would be reprising their characters from previous stories, and certain plot points might align with previous DC films, shows, and animated projects. However, he emphasized that nothing would be considered canon until the release of Creature Commandos and Superman: Legacy.
This change in cinematic continuity comes in the wake of underwhelming box office performances for all three 2023 DC movies: Shazam! Fury Of The Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle.
The final DC movie slated for release this year is Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, starring Jason Momoa. Audiences can anticipate its arrival in cinemas on December 20.
