27-9-2023 (YANGON) Myanmar authorities have made a significant drug bust in the central region of Mandalay, seizing a staggering 12.55 million stimulant tablets valued at over 18.8 billion kyats, which equates to more than 8.95 million U.S. dollars. The operation was carried out by the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) and was reported late on Tuesday.
The breakthrough came following a tip-off, prompting anti-narcotic police to conduct a search of a vehicle in the Patheingyi township of the Mandalay region last Thursday. During the operation, law enforcement successfully confiscated the massive quantity of stimulant tablets.
In connection with the case, authorities have apprehended three suspects. They now face charges under Myanmar’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Further investigations into the matter are currently in progress, as revealed by the CCDAC.
