26-9-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim returned home on Tuesday (September 26) following a four-day visit to New York where he led Malaysia’s delegation at the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Anwar, accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, touched down at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at approximately 5 pm local time.
Their arrival was greeted with a warm welcome, as Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, and enthusiastic supporters were on hand to receive them.
Anwar’s visit to the United States proved to be fruitful as he engaged with numerous prominent American companies with the aim of attracting increased investment and trade to Malaysia. During his stay, the Prime Minister held meetings and discussions with representatives from 15 leading US companies, all of which are featured in the prestigious Fortune 500 list. These companies include industry giants such as Airbnb, Amazon, Amazon Web Services, Boeing, ConocoPhillips, and Kimberly-Clark. These interactions took place at the Harvard Club.
At the Invest Malaysia New York event, attended by equity and bond capital market investors with a combined assets-under-management totaling an impressive US$40 trillion, Anwar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to establishing a conducive and welcoming investment environment in Malaysia. His presence at this event underscored Malaysia’s appeal as an investment destination for international financial markets.
Moreover, Anwar’s visit to New York presented him with a valuable opportunity to articulate Malaysia’s policies and international aspirations, thereby enhancing the nation’s standing in the global arena.
