16-9-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Protesters are currently en route to the Dang Wangi district police station to file a report against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The demonstrators, bearing placards with the slogan “dakwa Zahid” (Accuse Zahid) and chanting “tolak Zahid” (Reject Zahid), have received assistance from both the police and the PAS Unit Amal crowd control team.
The gathering initially congregated outside Masjid Kg Baru, where they vigorously exclaimed “takbir,” “Allahuakbar,” and “Reformasi” to passing vehicles. Several organizers stood atop a lorry, addressing the assembled crowd. Former Umno Putrajaya deputy chief, Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, began by clarifying, “Today is not a rally; we are simply gathering to express our opinions.”
This demonstration comes in the wake of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi being granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal for all 47 graft charges related to Yayasan Akalbudi funds. The High Court made this decision following an application by Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar to drop the charges against Zahid at the commencement of hearings on September 4.
The Attorney General’s Chambers accepted a letter from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on February 20, 2023, requesting a review of the charges against Ahmad Zahid, as stated in a release by Ahmad Zahid’s legal team.
