11-9-2023 (JAKARTA) On Monday, a powerful earthquake measuring 6.2 magnitude struck Indonesia’s North Maluku province, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The Indonesian geological agency, on the other hand, reported the magnitude as 5.9 and assured that there was no threat of a tsunami.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located 11 kilometers northeast of Jailolo city in North Maluku, with a depth of 168 kilometers, as stated by the Indonesian geological agency. So far, there have been no immediate reports of any damages or casualties resulting from the earthquake.
Indonesia, being situated along the renowned “Pacific Ring of Fire,” experiences frequent seismic activity due to the convergence of several tectonic plates in the region.
