11-9-2023 (HANOI) In a significant development, Vietnam Airlines has sealed a substantial $7.8 billion deal with the renowned US aircraft manufacturer Boeing. The announcement was made by the White House in a statement issued on Monday.
The agreement was welcomed following a meeting between US President Joe Biden and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi. The White House stated that this landmark deal is set to have a positive impact on job creation in the United States, supporting more than 30,000 jobs.
Under the terms of the deal, Vietnam Airlines is set to acquire 50 of Boeing’s 737 aircraft, as disclosed by President Biden during a roundtable discussion with senior executives representing prominent American and Vietnamese companies, including key figures from both aviation giants.
Vietnam Airlines, the nation’s flagship carrier, currently operates a fleet of 100 aircraft, which includes 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The newly acquired Boeing jets are intended to replace aircraft that have been in service for more than a decade, as reported by state media.
