10-9-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a bold and principled move, the Muda party has decided to withdraw its support for the unity government, choosing to chart an independent path as a formidable third force. This decision serves as a potent expression of discontent over the recent discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) granted to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the Yayasan Akalbudi case.
Muda President, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Sunday (Sept 10) to convey the party’s unwavering stance. He declared, “We cannot and will not tolerate this unprincipled move,” clearly articulating the party’s dissent over the controversial decision.
In a poignant follow-up statement, he asserted, “Let me be punished instead of losing my principles,” underlining the party’s commitment to upholding its core values.
Insiders from within the party have revealed that Muda’s withdrawal of support for the unity government had been brewing for some time. The tipping point, they say, was the outcome of Zahid’s case, which directly contradicted the party’s principles.
“This has been a long time coming. Muda has had enough after Zahid’s case. It goes against the party’s principles,” disclosed sources closely associated with the unfolding development.
It is worth noting that even as Muda takes this momentous step, the party has no intentions of aligning itself with Perikatan Nasional. Instead, it is poised to assert itself as a potent third force, reshaping the political landscape in Malaysia.
