6-9-2023 (SINGAPORE) A mobile crane caught fire on Tuesday morning along West Coast Highway, leading to a dramatic blaze that engulfed the entire front of the vehicle.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) promptly dispatched firefighters to the scene, who successfully extinguished the flames. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
Social media was abuzz with footage of the incident, showcasing the extent of the fire’s devastation. A TikTok video captured the blaze in full force, with thick black smoke billowing from the flames. The fire was so intense that it consumed the entire front part of the crane, rendering the driver’s seat unrecognizable.
Firefighters from the SCDF arrived swiftly to combat the inferno. Another video posted on Facebook showed them using hoses from a firetruck to douse the flames. The firefighting operation occupied two lanes of the road, leaving only one lane open for traffic.
Despite the challenging situation, the firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after several minutes of efforts. The road was left covered in white powder, likely a result of the firefighting efforts.
In response to inquiries, the SCDF confirmed that they received a fire alert near 71 West Coast Highway on the morning of Tuesday, September 5th, at approximately 7:30 am. The fire involved a crane truck, and firefighters utilized a water jet to extinguish the flames.
As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, authorities are relieved that there were no injuries resulting from the incident.
