4-9-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, has extended his congratulations to former senior minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam for his victory in Singapore’s Presidential Election on Friday (Sep 1).
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Prime Minister Anwar expressed his warm wishes: “Congratulations to Tharman Shanmugaratnam as the new president of the Republic of Singapore!” He also conveyed his hope that the strong bilateral relations and cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore would continue to thrive, benefiting the citizens of both nations.
Prime Minister Anwar further expressed his optimism that Singapore would continue to flourish under Mr. Tharman’s capable leadership.
In the recent Presidential election held on Friday, Tharman Shanmugaratnam secured a substantial 70.4% of the vote, outperforming his rivals, former GIC chief investment officer Ng Kok Song (15.72%) and former NTUC Income chief Tan Kin Lian (13.88%).
