30-8-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) and Brahim’s Holdings Bhd have concluded their long-standing in-flight catering partnership following what was described as a “thorough and prolonged” negotiation period. Beginning September 1, MAG, the parent company of Malaysia Airlines Bhd, will transition to self-catering.
In an official statement, MAG disclosed that it had received a formal discontinuation notice terminating the partnership on June 30. Subsequently, Brahim’s agreed to a two-month extension, concluding on August 31.
MAG explained that in November 2022, it initiated the process of renewing its contract following the reinstatement of Brahim’s Food Services (BFS) conditional license by the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom). The primary objective was to establish a mutually beneficial business proposal that would serve the interests of both MAG and BFS while prioritizing consumer interests.
MAG has reiterated its commitment to diversify its strategies to ensure business sustainability. This includes collaborations with reputable food and beverage (F&B) providers who share a commitment to delivering premium passenger experiences and efficient in-flight services at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Terminal 1.
The group emphasized its steadfast commitment to delivering a premium customer experience through its service providers and suppliers and ensuring the best possible experience for its customers.
In the interim, starting from September 1, MAG will implement its business continuity plan (BCP) for in-flight meal services on selected routes operated by Malaysia Airlines. This marks the discontinuation of the legacy partnership for catering services previously provided by BFS on specific domestic and international routes within Malaysia Airlines’ network.
During this transition, Malaysia Airlines will provide alternative in-flight food and beverage options on the affected routes to ensure seamless operations while minimizing any potential impact on customer comfort and experience. Other remaining routes will continue to be served by the current provider, POS Aviation Sdn Bhd.
MAG emphasized that it has carefully planned its self-catering operations under Malaysia Airlines, involving the sourcing of pre-packaged meal items and F&B supplies from multiple providers, including its lounge operator MAS Awana. AeroDarat Services, MAG’s ground handling company, will manage the in-flight meal uplift process onboard the aircraft.
To facilitate this transition, a temporary distribution center has been established at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), in strict compliance with safety standards set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the Ministry of Health.
