288-2023 (PHNOM PENH) Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, accompanied by his mother, former Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, departed for Beijing on Monday for a regular medical examination in China.
The royal family was bid farewell at Phnom Penh International Airport by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian, and other dignitaries.
In a message to the people, Sihamoni, 70, stated that his visit to Beijing was for a health checkup.
“During my absence, Samdech Say Chhum, President of the Senate, will serve as the Acting Head of State of the Kingdom of Cambodia,” he remarked.
The king undergoes medical checkups with Chinese doctors twice a year, with his most recent trip occurring in February of this year.
