24-8-2023 (SINGAPORE) Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong congratulated Thailand’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, affirming the strong and multifaceted relations between the two countries. Following months of political deadlock after Thailand’s general election in May, former property mogul Srettha Thavisin was confirmed as the country’s Prime Minister through a parliamentary vote.
In a congratulatory letter released by Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Thursday, Prime Minister Lee expressed his warmest congratulations on Srettha’s appointment as the 30th Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. He conveyed his confidence in Thailand’s continued growth and prosperity under Srettha’s leadership.
Highlighting the robust economic ties, close institutional links, and regular political and people-to-people exchanges between Singapore and Thailand, Prime Minister Lee emphasized the longstanding and deep cooperation in various sectors such as trade and investment, defense, and education. He also acknowledged the strong partnership between the two countries in multilateral forums, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Prime Minister Lee expressed certainty that the friendship between Singapore and Thailand would strengthen further in the years to come.
Prime Minister Lee extended his eagerness to collaborate with Prime Minister Srettha in expanding and deepening bilateral relations and expressed a desire to meet him soon. He extended an invitation for Srettha and his wife, Khun Pakpilai, to visit Singapore at the earliest opportunity.
Concluding the letter, Prime Minister Lee wished Srettha every success and good health as he embarked on his new term as Thailand’s Prime Minister.
In a nationally televised address following his endorsement, Prime Minister Srettha pledged to foster unity in Thailand and implement policies aimed at resolving crises and propelling the country forward. He also committed to promoting inclusiveness and governing for the benefit of all Thais, ushering in a new era of change.
