18-8-2023 (SINGAPORE) In a significant development, a National Environment Agency (NEA) executive officer in Singapore found himself facing corruption charges. Ruzdiman Salhan, a 42-year-old Singaporean, was charged in court on Wednesday for allegedly obtaining and attempting to receive bribes in the form of loans totaling S$24,420 (US$18,000). The bribes were allegedly received between May 2019 and April 2022 from eight current and former employees of YS Yong Services.
The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) disclosed in a news release on Tuesday that the bribes were offered as inducements to “show leniency” during the quality assurance audit of cleaning works conducted by YS Yong Services for the routes under Ruzdiman’s inspection.
Ruzdiman now faces 15 charges for his alleged offenses. If convicted of corruption, he could be subjected to a maximum penalty of a S$100,000 fine, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.
