15-8-2023 (JAKARTA) The Indonesian Police’s anti-terror squad, Densus 88, apprehended a suspected terrorist in Bekasi city, West Java, on Monday. The individual, identified by the initials DE, is believed to be a supporter of the terrorist network ISIS and was actively disseminating terror propaganda on social media. Police spokesperson Brig. Gen Ahmad Ramadhan shared the information during a press conference in Jakarta.
DE, who works for a state-run company, was arrested in Bulak Sentul, Harapan Jaya, North Bekasi Sub-district, at 12:17 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The suspect had reportedly posted a digital poster on his Facebook account, containing the text of an oath of allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State, Abu Al Husain Al Husain Al Quraysi. The text was written in both Arabic and Indonesian.
” The suspect was allegedly involved in fundraising,” stated Ramadhan. DE was said to have joined a group on the messaging platform Telegram and served as an administrator for Breaking News, a channel that provided updates on global terrorism.
After arresting DE, the police questioned him and conducted a search of his residence in Harapan Jaya Village. During the search, the anti-terror squad discovered homemade firearms, ammunition, books, a laptop, and a camera.
This incident is not the first time an employee of a state-owned firm has been apprehended for alleged involvement in terrorism. In September 2021, Densus 88 arrested a suspected terrorist, identified by the initial S, in Bekasi. The individual was an employee of the state-run pharmaceutical firm PT Kimia Farma.
