As technology advances, retailers in Thailand are adopting artificial intelligence, automating checkout processes, and implementing immersive platforms to personalize the shopping journey for consumers. Major retailers are rolling out these innovations to stay relevant, increase efficiency, and cut costs.
Lotus’s Pick & Go by True Digital unmanned store, launched in July at Lotus’s flagship North Ratchaphruek store, allows customers to shop and pay using the TrueMoney Wallet app. Customers simply scan a QR code to enter the store, select their items, then exit after being automatically charged. The store plans to add support for other payment options by year’s end.
True Corporation’s chief digital officer Ekaraj Panjavinin said the unmanned store fits the convenience demands of hurried customers. True aims to evolve its True Virgo AI retail platform into a fully automated system connecting AI cameras to monitor and optimize the store environment. Items will have digital price tags adjustable in real time.
Meanwhile, Central Retail Corporation launched the “world’s first immersive retail platform” in July in the form of its C-Verse shopping app. The platform integrates virtual and physical retail using generative AI, customizable avatars, and secure payments.
Retail experts said technology will continue shaping the future of shopping. Artificial intelligence and data analytics will enable personalized experiences, voice and sensor-based interfaces, and zero-effort ordering. Immersive technologies like augmented reality will allow customers to ‘try on’ products virtually. Unmanned stores are also gaining traction globally to reduce costs and waiting times.
