6-8-2023 (CAIRO) A tugboat operating in the Suez Canal has tragically sunk after colliding with a Hong Kong-flagged LPG tanker, according to the Suez Canal Authority’s announcement on Saturday (Aug 5). The incident occurred in the strategically vital waterway, but the authority did not specify whether there had been any disruption to shipping traffic.
Onboard the tugboat named “Fahd,” there were seven people at the time of the collision, as stated by Osama Rabie, the head of the canal authority. He further revealed that rescue operations were underway, and a crane had been dispatched to retrieve the sunken vessel.
The collision took place in the Ballah area while the tanker, “CHINAGAS LEGEND,” was heading south on its voyage from Singapore to the United States. In response to the incident, Rabie stated that the tanker is currently anchored in Port Said, awaiting the completion of accident-related procedures.
Describing the tanker, Rabie stated that it measures 230 meters in length, 36 meters in width, and carries a substantial cargo of 52,000 tons of LPG.
