5-8-2023 (BANGKOK) A new Thai airline, Really Cool Airlines, is anticipating its inaugural flights to commence in December, according to The Star. The airline’s CEO, Patee Sarasin, revealed that the company is awaiting an air operator certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand before commencing operations. Once approved, Really Cool Airlines plans to position itself as a full-service “lifestyle carrier,” offering a unique travel experience that bridges the gap between luxury and budget airlines. The airline will initially operate with three leased Airbus A330 aircraft, each with a capacity of over 300 passengers.
With an investment exceeding 1 billion baht, Really Cool Airlines aims to target inbound passengers, who make up approximately 70% of Thailand’s air travelers. The airline plans to focus on regional routes during its initial stage of operations, serving destinations such as Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. In 2025, the airline intends to expand its services to Europe. By primarily focusing on international routes, Really Cool Airlines aims to avoid direct competition with well-established domestic carriers.
The parent company, RC Airlines Co Ltd, was established in March of this year with a registered capital of 200 million baht. Patee Sarasin, the founder and director of the company, is a former CEO of Thai budget carrier Nok Air. After leaving Nok Air in 2017, Sarasin went on to establish a travel platform company called “Really Cool.” He remains optimistic about the future of the aviation industry, despite the challenges posed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on air travel.
To adapt to the changing landscape, Really Cool Airlines plans to incorporate new technologies and innovative ideas to reduce operating costs and enhance passenger comfort and safety. Sarasin acknowledges the hurdles faced by the aviation industry, including geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties. However, he believes that by embracing technological advancements, the airline can overcome these challenges and contribute to the industry’s recovery.
Thailand’s aviation industry experienced a significant decline in value, plummeting from 320 billion baht before the pandemic to 130 billion baht last year. Nevertheless, signs of recovery have been observed this year. The market is currently dominated by seven major airlines, including Thai Airways International, Nok Air, Thai Smile, Thai AirAsia X, Thai Vietjet, Thai Lion Air, and Thai Air Asia. Really Cool Airlines aims to carve out its niche in the market and attract passengers seeking a distinctive travel experience.
