4-8-2023 (JAKARTA) According to reports from Indonesian media outlet “Kumparan,” a woman named Mariana was initially set to marry a young man, but he suddenly changed his mind, leaving Mariana devastated and even contemplating suicide. Seeking solace, Mariana turned to her close friend Lisa, whose support helped her overcome the emotional turmoil.
However, what followed was even more surprising. During her time seeking comfort from Lisa, Mariana developed feelings for Lisa’s 16-year-old son, Kevin. Mariana took the initiative and expressed her desire to date Kevin, and to her astonishment, Lisa did not object. After thoughtful consideration, Kevin also decided to enter a relationship with Mariana. Shockingly, the couple announced their marriage on July 30, despite only dating for a short period. Mariana said, “I never thought Kevin would be my future husband. The first time I saw him, he was only 12 years old, and he called me ‘auntie’ at that time.”
Despite the 25-year age gap between them, Mariana emphasized that she is not bothered by Kevin’s age and firmly believes that her husband will mature with time. However, under Indonesian law, the legal age for marriage is 19, and the West Kalimantan Child Protection and Supervision Committee (KPPAD) has raised concerns that this marriage may violate the local Child Protection Act. Consequently, authorities are currently investigating the matter.
